Our Board Members
Gretchen Weller, secretary
Gretchen is originally from western New York but Ellensburg, Washington has always felt like home. She has been married to her husband Nate for almost 20 years and they are raising their three miracle kids after a long bout of unexplained infertility. Shortly after her daughter turned one, Gretchen was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. She has monthly treatment at Swedish Issaquah to try to control its progression. As a family they have committed to living life with hope and joy. She feels blessed to be a part of the Gretchen Weller Foundation and looks forward to any and all opportunities to help others in the community whose family is facing the battle of cancer.
Cathie Day, President
A 25 year resident of the valley, Cathie is a teacher at Ellensburg High School and a graduate of CWU. As so many of us have, she has lost loved ones to cancer, and also helped friends who fought it and survived. A cancer diagnosis is scary, stressful, and expensive. She is glad to have an opportunity to help support families who are in this fight, and is dedicated to this special foundation that keeps local funds local. She and the Board strive to ensure that every family in our community living with cancer is supported.
Mary Gordon, Treasurer
Mary Gordon joined the GWF Board in 2016 and serves as the Treasurer. Raised in Ellensburg, Mary attended Ellensburg High School and Washington State University where she earned degrees in Physical Education and English. Mary returned to Ellensburg in 2002 with her husband Steve and three children and has been active in the schools and community with various volunteer activities. She is passionate about giving back to the community she loves, and also serves on the boards of the Ellensburg Rodeo Hall of Fame and the Ellensburg Education Foundation where she coordinates Caring Cupboard, a program that helps students with items needed to be successful in school. Mary works part time at Ellensburg Pasta Company.
Suzie Rizor, Board Member
Suzie Rizor moved to Kittitas County in 2006 with her husband. Her roots are in north central Oregon, but she is happy to call this friendly and generous county "home." Suzie met the Wellers at a KVH birthing class when she and Gretchen were pregnant with their oldest children. After the birth of their eldest children, the families became fast friends. Cancer has touched the lives of many people dear to Suzie's heart and she is glad to be part of an organization that strives to relieve some of the stress that cancer brings. Suzie, her two young girls, and husband enjoy spending time together on their hobby farm as well as hiking, camping, and reading.
